Some chiropractors choose to pursue additional certifications and coursework, allowing them to focus on other areas of chiropractic. One of those areas is called NeuroStructural Correction.
A chiropractor who focuses on NeuroStructural Correction is looking to correct the underlying structure.
NeuroStructural Chiropractors look at your spine like an architect looks at a building. If there are deficits in the foundation that will cause a structural problem, leading in the case of the body to neurological problems. Dr. Graham-Long sees that it is necessary to correct the underlying NeuroStructural problems.
Your Spine is your Foundation. How strong is yours?
Think of your spine as the foundation for a building. If the foundation was off, would you expect the floors to creak, the walls to crack, and windows to break down? Now you can spend time patching all the damage, but you would be doing so with the expectation that in a short time the problems will have to be…..?
….Repaired Again….and Again….
It is much better to correct the foundation.
Rather than constantly repairing damage, at Structural Chiropractic, we’ve chosen to fix the underlying Foundation and help your spine reach Normal Structure.
Of course our services aren’t for everyone. However, if you are tired of constantly patching the problem and
you’re looking for a long term solution that you can both feel AND see for yourself, then Structural may be the right place for you. Once the foundation has been fixed, then we’ll teach you how to keep it that way through customized recommendations designed for your spine, so that the problem doesn’t come back.
Structural Shifts often begin in childhood. Minor traumas that children seem to recover from quickly can leave small shifts that if left uncorrected can develop into major shifts that are much more difficult to correct during adulthood.
Children who are still growing respond incredibly well to structural correction. Achieving a normal spine is much easier for children.
In healthcare, there are established normal values for many health indicators. There’s a standard for normal blood pressure, normal cholesterol, and normal vision. It doesn’t mean that we expect everyone to have a PERFECT measure, but there are healthy ranges for people depending on their age and situation.
A structural shift is an abnormal misalignment of the spine, that causes havoc with your body’s optimal function. At Structural Chiropractic we are looking for structural shifts in your spine and pelvis that affect your Neuro-Spinal function. These shifts will initially cause the muscles to spasm, eventually deforming the ligaments then disrupt the NERVES leading from the spinal cord.
Could your problems be the result of a Structural Shift? If the answer to that question is yes, NeuroStructural Correction is for you.
Once a structural shift is present and disrupting the spinal nerves and spinal cord, it can create many different secondary conditions or symptoms.
The reason these are called secondary conditions is because they are a result of the primary structural shift, or the underlying cause. The locations of the structural shift and where the nerves are being disrupted will give us an idea about your secondary conditions.
There are a wide variety of treatment options offered by both medical and alternative medicine practitioners. Most doctors are focused on pain and symptom relief (secondary conditions), and they do an excellent job. People often start with medication or herbal/homeopathic remedies which can turn off pain receptors. If that doesn’t work, then courses of physical therapy may be used to strengthen muscular weakness, address spasm, or increase mobility. Injection programs to calm the site of pain come in next. When those don’t work, more invasive procedures like surgery start to fall into the picture. Regrettably, those therapies only address the secondary conditions (symptoms) and not the underlying cause.
All of these treatment programs are effective in the appropriate time and place and have different goals. Our goal at Structural Chiropractic is to restore the structural integrity of your spine.
Dr. Graham-Long has built excellent relationships with the best health care providers throughout the community. If during the consultation she finds that Structural Chiropractic isn’t right for you, we will make sure to find the best practitioner to help resolve your specific condition.
